Two Rivers Greenway Master Plan Skunk Creek Multi-use Path |
Projects - Infrastructures
Skunk Creek Multi-use Path
LORIS is working with the City of Peoria and Arizona Dept. of Transportation as the prime consultant for the design of this federally funded 3,000-ft. multi-use path. LORIS initially prepared a design concept report, which included a comprehensive analysis of potential trail alignment options and associated construction costs. Based on our performance during the design concept phase, we were awarded the second phase, which will carry the project through final design. The selected alignment will provide a safe connection for pedestrians and bicyclists from the Rio Vista Community Park to other regional pathways. The path will wind in and out (approximately 14 vertical feet) of the Skunk Creek streambed, which is generally dry, except for the low-flow channel, and only contains water in flooding situations. The stream banks are lined with soil cement and are grouted or contain loose riprap. Therefore, designing solid slope protection for a multi-use path under these conditions while also complying with Flood Control District slope protection guidelines and keeping the design costs low are the greatest challenges to this project. We worked with local subconsultants to acquire topographic survey, environmental findings, and geotechnical findings.
