Little Dry Creek Trail
Westminster, Colorado
LORIS provided complete design, preparation of bid documents, right-of-way drawings, and on-site construction management of this $1.2 million ISTEA project. The trail passes through a congested, semi-industrial part of Westminster and required coordination with the City of Westminster, Adams County, CDOT, and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway. The 1.75-mile concrete path winds along Little Dry Creek between 64th and 72nd Avenue. In order to fit the path within existing improvements, the project required a realignment of 300 feet of Little Dry Creek, design of two underpasses, two pedestrian bridges, and modifications to the existing CDOT bridge at Federal Boulevard. LORIS' design was also sensitive to wildlife and aesthetics. The trail was located as far from the creek as possible in order to preserve wildlife corridors. Because of careful trail alignment and planning, wetlands were not impacted. Boulder retaining walls were used throughout to enhance the natural setting.
