Horizon
High School Field and Track H&L Architecture The existing track facility, originally constructed in the late 80's, was failing due to poor surface and sub-surface drainage that caused the underlying clay soils to swell. The design objective was to renovate the existing facility to eliminate surface and subsurface drainage issues, while not disturbing the fragile sand-based field. LORIS worked with Advanced Drainage Systems (ADS) to develop a method of retrofitting pre-fabricated catch basins into the existing storm sewer system. Installation was difficult since the existing storm sewer and field underdrain locations were unknown. LORIS designed the track to meet National Federation of State High School Associations requirements, thus making it possible to use the facility as a regional track facility in the future. The eight-lane track was designed as a post tension slab to resist cracking and differential movement. The American Concrete Institute gave special recognition for this project as a monolithically poured post tensioned track. The track was surfaced with a Eurotan polyurethane sport surface.
