Two Rivers Greenway Master Plan Lefthand Creek Greenway |
Projects - Infrastructures
Lefthand Creek Greenway at Main Street
LORIS provided complete engineering services for this federally funded multi-use path adjacent to Lefthand Creek in Longmont. The path section begins at Kamemoto Park and winds eastward along the creek through a sensitive riparian corridor. It crosses beneath Main Street (U.S. Highway 287) and adjoins a connector path to the City of Longmont's Quail Campus, which is home to the Longmont Museum and Cultural Center, also designed by LORIS. LORIS performed an alignment alternative analysis to determine the best location for this path segment that would optimize user experience and safety, yet minimize environmental impact. The 1,700-ft. path design included constraints that had to consider the neighboring wetlands, creek hydraulics, and a limited right-of-way in which to place the path. The path also required a crossing of U.S. Highway 287. We were able to incorporate an existing 4-lane vehicular bridge structure on the highway into the pedestrian crossing design, instead of creating an all-new underpass structure, which saved considerable construction expenses and allowed the entire project to be built at once, rather than in phases. The project also included the design of an additional 1,075 feet of path east of Main Street and two new pedestrian bridges that cross over Lefthand Creek and an adjacent drainage ditch.
