West First Street & Downtown Street Improvements (DEPP) Cemetery Lane
|
Projects - Infrastructures
Cemetery Lane For Phase 2 of the project, LORIS designed a multi-use path that connects the AABC Trail with the Rio Grande Trail in the City of Aspen. A combination of site structures and natural features were used to carry this trail through this challenging corridor. A 550-ft. long pedestrian bridge was designed to carry the trail through the most difficult segment. Boulder and mechanically stabilized earth retaining walls were also used. The project also required a 150-ft. span pedestrian bridge over the Roaring Fork River in Henry Stein Park. Intensive agency and public involvement was required, including coordination with the City of Aspen, Aspen Consolidated Sanitary District, Pitkin County, CDOT, Aspen Valley Land Trust and the Cemetery Lane Neighborhood Task Force. The Cemetery Lane Trail was awarded a 2005 Design Honor Award for projects over $50,000 in construction cost by the Colorado Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects. Construction cost was approximately $2.8 million.
