Skunk Creek Underpass at Broadway
Boulder, Colorado

LORIS performed complete civil, structural, and urban design services for this underpass on Broadway (State Highway 93) in Boulder. The project also included street rehabilitation design on Broadway with an ADT of 36,000. A creative phasing plan was used to keep the existing box culvert intact during construction to ease constructibility and save utility relocation costs. The project was built in two phases to keep Broadway open during construction. A local artist was commissioned to provide the unique aesthetic treatment, and a break away fence was installed across Skunk Creek that allows floodwater to enter the underpass culvert. This city and federally funded project bid at $1.7 million.
