St. Vrain Greenway |
Projects - Infrastructures
St. Vrain Greenway
The St. Vrain Greenway is a 9.5-mile corridor that extends from North 75th Street to Weld County Road 7 in Longmont. LORIS has been involved in several of the project's ongoing phases. Initially, LORIS provided design services as a subconsultant to Design Concepts (landscape architect) for six pedestrian bridges that cross St. Vrain Creek, Lefthand Creek, Old Dry Creek, and the Bonus Ditch. LORIS also designed the trail segments adjacent to these bridges, beneath the existing vehicular bridge at Main Street (State Highway 119), and other segments where slopes or site grading was critical. This phase of the project bid at $954,000. LORIS then served as the lead consultant for the next segment of the greenway, which included two miles of path design through a riparian corridor, a 140-ft. span pedestrian bridge over St. Vrain Creek, path design and erosion control beneath the existing SH 119 Bridge, ramp connections to bike lanes on SH 119, a new pedestrian underpass structure at 119th Street, and modifications to an existing field access bridge. Several alternative path alignments were considered in the conceptual design phase to establish an alignment that would provide the highest quality user experience while minimizing impacts to wetlands, wildlife habitat, and other sensitive areas. The path beneath the existing SH 119 bridge was designed to provide erosion protection during flood events without imposing a negative impact to the floodplain. LORIS' scope of work also included a conceptual design and location study evaluation for an additional pedestrian bridge, trailhead, and underpass beneath County Line Road to be built in a future phase. This phase of the project required the approval of City of Longmont Drainage, Boulder County Transportation, Boulder County Parks and Open Space, and CDOT, among others. The construction cost for this phase was approximately $470,000. LORIS utilized the services of Flatirons Surveying, CTL|Thompson, ERO Resources Corp, Design Concepts, and Clanton & Associates as subconsultants.
