Bridge #42 West First Street & Bridge #135 |
Projects - Infrastructures
Bridge #135 Adams County, Colorado Located in rural Adams County, Bridge #135 required replacement because it was structurally inadequate and severely misaligned. LORIS performed a bridge type study and determined that the optimum structural solution consisted of a two-span bridge founded on drilled caissons. The superstructure consists of 72-inch deep bulb-T girders spanning 135 feet. The center pier consists of drilled caissons with circular columns extending from the creek bed up to a pile cap. This structural system was a very cost effective solution, bidding at $37 per square foot! The roadway alignment was improved and construction facilitated by relocating the new structure adjacent to the existing. The roadway was kept open on the existing alignment during construction, and then switched over to the new surface at completion. Finally, the old roadway was obliterated and the topography restored to its native state. |
