Crane Hollow Bridge Bridge #42 West First Street & |
Projects - Infrastructures
Crane Hollow Bridge Boulder County, Colorado LORIS replaced the Crane Hollow Bridge by rehabilitating the existing abutments and pier and constructing a new superstructure. Because the bridge is located in a pristine, mixed-use area, construction workers had to be sensitive to the concerns of area dairy farmers, homeowners and delicate wildlife, including cranes in the area. The Crane Hollow Bridge was "replaced" by rehabilitating the existing abutments and pier and constructing a new superstructure. The new bridge uses steel girders and a concrete deck without an asphalt overlay in order to minimize dead load. The architectural detailing
on the bridge rail, constructed of lightweight concrete, provides an attractive
landmark for this pristine setting. The river cobble used as veneer was
taken from the stream bed under the bridge. Even with the ornate detailing,
LORIS and Associates saved Boulder County over $100,000 from original
estimates to completely replace the bridge.
