Brighton High School No. 2 H +
L Architecture
Design of a new $27 M, 210,000 ft 2 High School located in Brighton, Colorado. This distinctive project consists of two 30,000 ft 2 , 2-story classroom wings adjoined by a central science wing, 2 gymnasiums with supporting athletic locker, weight and aerobics rooms totaling more than 40,000 ft 2 , a commons kitchen and cafeteria, an arts/ career development wing with a 600 seat auditorium, faculty office space and a 12,000 ft 2 regional community library. This new high school is an important part of the developing community in Brighton. It will not only serve as the second high school in the city, but is also intended to be open and used by the community after hours. The design of the new high school includes structural steel framing and composite concrete deck with the roof supported by steel bar joists at the classroom, office, library and science wings. The auditorium is framed with load bearing concrete masonry units and custom steel trusses supporting the roof. The gymnasium roof is framed using custom steel tube trusses spanning 116 feet and are spaced at 16 feet on center allowing for an open and unobstructed space. The main entry into the new high school is highlighted by a unique roof structure cantilevering 35 feet into the heart of the campus landscape.
